Entos Group Legacy

Opportunity and the entrepreneurial spirit…

Family, integrity, initiative, and tenacity continue to comprise its core values. Hailing from a proud pedigree of leaders in distribution, it is the company’s hope to contribute to the integrity and preservation of the greater industry this family has been a part of for 4 generations and nearly a century.

Beginning in 1922…

Beginning in 1922, E W Bettinger founded Mutual Manufacturing & Supply Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. For nearly 80 years, Mutual served as a regional distributor of PVF, plumbing and heating supplies in the industrial and commercial markets. Later succeed by his son-in-law and grandson, Andrew P Barton and Drew Barton, Mutual was consecutively owned and operated by three generations of family leaders (all proud Notre Dame alumni), dedicated to the trade, their employees, and the ideals of opportunity, growth, and prosperity.

Encouraged to join his in-laws in the family business, Mutual afforded Entos Group founder, Mike Grunkemeyer, his solid foundation in what would be an esteemed career in the industry. He later joined Ferguson Enterprises in 1983 and, under the mentorship of David Peebles, Charlie Banks, and Chip Hornsby, forged a commendable path in his 26-year tenure with the company.

The Mid 90s-2011

Often regarded as a maverick, Mike, as Senior VP/Business Development (encompassing sourcing and marketing, and later, commercial and industrial/PVF), was charged with overall company growth and profitability. He (quite literally) bet his career on, and pioneered, Ferguson’s private label initiative (PROFLO, PROSELECT, Mirabelle, Raptor) in the mid 90s, much ahead of its time, and spearheaded the centralized DC model; both advantageous strategies, still pivotal aspects of the company’s stable foothold and continuous prosperity today. To his credit, Mike helped drive Ferguson’s growth from $1B to over $7B in annual sales, during his 10 year executive career with the US company.

Later, from 2004-2009, Mike was part of the first wave of US leadership appointed at Ferguson Plc (formerly Wolseley plc), Ferguson’s parent company. He was appointed Director of Business Development to replicate his success with Ferguson. He oversaw global sourcing offices throughout Europe and including Beijing, St Petersburg, Russia, Brazil, among others. Mike then served on Ferguson’s Board of Directors and had the privilege of consulting and being invited to sit on the boards of various other leading companies in the industry.

Always an opportunist and often a visionary (also not a fan of retirement), in 2011, after a two year non-compete agreement, Mike saw a demand and a niche opportunity to combine his invaluable knowledge (and contacts) and the oddly appropriate talents and professional experience of his four children to create a boutique consulting group, specializing in global sourcing and private label development. The stars were aligning and after a quick trip around the globe, confirming his A-team …Entos Group was born!

2012 – Today

Entos Group has been women-owned from the start, and from 2012 – 2017 the Entos Group team was honored to have the privilege to work alongside, travel and source with, and continue to absorb the philosophy and wisdom of Mike Grunkemeyer.

Sadly, in May 2017, the company mascot, mentor, and hero passed away. Now, his legacy lives on; as Entos Group upholds his principle values and carries out his vision, preserving the professional friendships and relationships he formed over 35 years, collaborating with folks he mentored and impacted during his career, and continuing the growth and success of the company he founded.

In 2020, Entos Group, like many other businesses, was able to temporarily pivot and put its expertise and resources to great use during the Covid pandemic. With the help of their global partners, Entos Group was able to quickly procure millions of dollars of PPE for distributors and service workers on the front lines.

In 2022, after 10 years in business, Entos Group proudly becomes a certified Women Owned Small Business. Exciting opportunities ahead for Entos Group as well as its existing and prospective customers.
